Scientific and Cultural Consultations with the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka

Scientific and cultural consultations were held between the Cultural Counsellor of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Sri Lanka and the University of Kelaniya to expand academic, artistic, and Iranology cooperation. Both sides emphasized strengthening institutional ties and protecting educational and scientific institutions against threats and attacks

 

 

Within the framework of expanding scientific and cultural diplomacy, the Cultural Counsellor of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Sri Lanka held official meeting with Dr. Chaminda Jayanthra, Head of the Library of the University of Kelaniya, along with library staff members, and also with Dr. Lasanthi Manoranjani, Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Kelaniya. The meetings focused on strengthening institutional cooperation, expanding Iranology studies, and designing joint academic and artistic initiatives.

In the field of Iranology studies, both sides emphasized accelerating the administrative procedures related to the establishment of an “Iran Room” at the University Library. This initiative, which has been under consideration for some time, is intended to serve as a reference center introducing Iranian written resources, cultural heritage, and scientific capacities.

During the meeting, Ali KebriaieZadeh also spoke in detail about the attacks carried out by the United States and Israel against the Mina School, as well as attacks targeting Iranian universities and scientific and research centers, condemning what he described as crimes committed by the two regimes.

In a separate meeting with Dr. Lasanthi Manoranjani, Dean of the Faculty of Arts,

 discussions focused on organizing specialized academic sessions and exploring shared capacities in the fields of performing arts and music. Welcoming the proposals presented, the Dean suggested the establishment of an “Iran Corner” within the Faculty of Arts as a space dedicated to showcasing Iran’s traditional and contemporary arts and promoting artistic exchanges. The proposal was warmly welcomed by the Iranian Cultural Counsellor.

The meetings also addressed recent developments and attacks against scientific and educational institutions in Iran, including universities and the Mina School. Both sides stressed the importance of safeguarding academic institutions as fundamental infrastructures for development and highlighted the need for solidarity within the global scientific and cultural community against threats targeting education and knowledge.It is noteworthy that these meetings were held in a constructive and purposeful atmosphere, fostering mutual understanding of capacities and priorities while highlighting practical avenues for expanding scientific, cultural, and artistic cooperation between the two sides.
